Friends of the Salisbury Public Library - Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2016

Meeting called to order:  5:00 p.m.

Attendees: Mary Kirk, John Doucette, Dianne Masiello, Patty Doggett, Danielle Phillips, Pam Shaw.
Guests: Jane Purinton, Jeannette Lazarus

Treasurer’s report: $300 cruise expenditure. Approved after discussion.

Minutes from June approved.

Book Nook: Leeward Light used for unwanted books. Ten cartons donated to date. Only good quality books
are being placed in Book Nook. Pam will look into adding a bookshelf in the kid’s room. Please let Pam know if
you have any other ideas.

Building updates: Public area on first floor and office carpeting needs cleaning. Gardens are being mulched
by Brendan Burke. The mulch was donated and delivered. Signs have been posted around building promoting
aspects of Gold status level. Reimbursement ($125,000) goes to town, not library. There is only one other gold
status LEED building on the North Shore. An article should be looked into about LEED buildings - money back
to town, provides publicity for town. We believe town used money to pay down debt. Public should be notified
how much came back in rebates. Pam and Terry to investigate.

Children’s events: Curious Critters, magician, puppets, rainforest reptiles. Pleased with overall turnout and
participation. There were 125 attendees at Curious Critters.

Upcoming events: John will send weekly email to promote sunset cruise. Thanks to Dianne for sending
emails to everyone as well. Jeannette discussed the idea of speaking to Town Common, Sawyer Farm folks.
Notify condo boards in town - a consortium with five notices to boards. Could we send out in email blasts?
Channel library events via boards.

Sunset Cruise: We’ll provide bar snacks and/or nuts (individually pre-packaged).
Author series: Next author presentation about organ donation is date TBD.
October 6 Christopher Daley $300: $200 for president and $100 for mileage.
                                              Looking for suggestions. We will try to get in touch with Hank Phillipe Ryan;;
Monique Greliech - book in couple of weeks;; Edith Maxwell, Frank Shaeffer. Patty will contact
Frank once she confers with Terry.  Jeannette and Patty could make baked goods for sale.

Membership drive: not getting level of returning members expected.

Meet and greet evening with wine and cheese in September 2016 was discussed for consideration.

Mary suggested we could post minutes on website and/or email start with August 2016. Add email - can attend
monthly meetings. Post agenda also. We’ll consider sending agenda a week prior to meetings and post
minutes within a week after meetings.

Clocks: Money will be reimbursed by Chamber of Commerce for clocks being purchased for library. Using
Design within Reach. One in meeting room and one in conference room. $68 each. One for kids’ room for $50
- $100 and one for young adults’ room.

Benches: two to be placed in front and one at back entrance. Wilson Welding will build and install
permanently. Friends approved three of the four benches requested plus the installation expenses.

The shush sculpture near the fireplace belongs to Terry and the Friends will eventually investigate a
replacement. Currently available for $159.

Jeannette would like to see empty cases in the conference room a little fuller and suggested decorative book
ends.

Meeting adjourned: at 5:50 p.m.

Next meeting: Tuesday, August 16.
