Learn More About Our Mixed Bag Gallery Project (View the Gallery)
The Salisbury Public Library is kicking off its very first and only “Mixed Bag Gallery” project! It’s our way of thanking the Library Staff for all their efforts in making books available during the coronavirus. If you pick up a bag of books from the library, and you want to join in on the fun, you can create your very own piece of artwork or craftwork using the bag. You can also pick up an official bag at Joyful Harvest at 4 Elm Street, Salisbury, (978) 358-8346. They are located in the mall in Salisbury Square, to the right of the Post Office. Feel free to make as many bags as you’d like, and also feel free to be totally goofy, serious, artsy, craftsy, whatever. No rules!!! Be creative!!! Show your frustration, your boredom, your absolute misery, or your moments of joy during these very interesting times. Please drop off your completed bags at Joyful Harvest. When the library opens, the bags will be posted on the library walls to commemorate your appreciation to the library staff, and to provide a novel viewing experience for library visitors. We may also have an event, a contest, a drawing, a fundraiser. We’ll see. But for now, get going on your very own bagwork!

Additional Instructions:
1. If you will be painting directly on the bag, treating it with clear homemade gesso will prevent the paint from leeching into the bag. To make the gesso, use 1/2 cup of Elmer’s glue, white or clear, 2 tbsp corn starch, 1/8 cup water. Mix, apply and let dry.
2. Please write your name, phone number and email address on the back of the bag. You may also want to give your artwork a name: something descriptive, or to make a point, or simply just fun.
3. Take a photo of your completed bag and email it to Jeannette Lazarus at [email protected]. If possible, please take the photo in a vertical format with an uncluttered background. Send it in a large format, 1MB or larger. The photo of your bag will be posted in our Mixed Bag Gallery on the library website. Click here to see what has been submitted so far.
4. Completed bags should be dropped off at Joyful Harvest.
The Mixed Bag Gallery Project is sponsored by the Friends of the Salisbury Public Library.
